Scootering Balboa Island

It’s been a while since the girls had played with their friends, Kennedy, and Sebastian, so we met up with Lucero and kids for a spontaneous hangout at Balboa Island.

Kennedy told the girls all about her new American Girl doll, Kelly, and now they want to trade in their Bitty Babies for a big girl doll and go to the AG store in LA with Kennedy.

Meredith is normally a total nightmare in restaurants, but today she decided to people-watch contentedly while we munched on strawberry waffles at Le Pain Quotidien.

Bee helmets on and ready to scooter Balboa Island.

A playdate at Balboa is not complete without a hippo cookie from the famous Dad’s Donuts. There are so many cute shops, ice cream parlors, and bakeries on Balboa that we could have spent all day browsing, but the kids were scootering down the sidewalk faster than we could catch them.

Couldn’t leave without a chocolate banana from the Original Frozen Banana Stand. Meredith enjoyed a lick.

We promised the kids we’d go down to the beach, thinking they’d just stick their toes in the sand for a minute, but NOPE. Samantha and Amelia dove in, jeans and all! They looked miserably uncomfortable on the ride home in their wet jeans, but I didn’t hear any complaints, so they apparently didn’t mind. Meredith made several escape attempts to the ocean and was quite enraged each time I pulled her out of the water.

Constructing a sand castle with Kennedy.

Amelia has been sporting a bandaid prominently on her face for the past week and a half after Samantha burned her with the hot glue gun during an afternoon building a birdhouse with Daddy. Samantha has been very remorseful about the incident and even told her teachers during share time about what happened and how she’s tried to make it up to Amelia with extra hugs and sharing her favorite stuffed animals.

Sebastian shows off his “fish.”

The best part about getting together with this crew is how nicely all the kids play together. Even though Kennedy and Sebastian are a little bit older than the girls, they run off together like the best of friends, lost in their own little world. It’s always nice when I can chat with my own friend while the girls play happily with theirs.

Until our next adventure with the Smiths…

Lots of love,
