Can I Go Back to Sleep, Please?

It’s been one of those mornings where you wake up and immediately know it’s going to be a looooooong day. I’m feeling much better from my cold than last week, but still have a lingering cough, which tends to be worse in the morning when I first wake up.

We also discovered over the weekend that Samantha and Amelia have two large lumps on their top gums and we can almost see two teeth about to cut through. Amelia has been handling it a lot better than Samantha, who has been terribly cranky the past few days. On top of teething, both girls woke up crying multiple times last night and we were so tired, that we just let them sleep in our bed, which means we didn’t exactly sleep like babies. By the way, WHO came up with that expression? I want to slap that person. Makes no sense whatsoever.

After sleeping restlessly all night, the girls woke up at 5:30 a.m. and decided they were ready to go for the day. Jake had already left for work, so the girls and I started our morning routine in the dark of the early dawn hours by ourselves. If there’s one thing that automatically puts me on edge, it’s the girls getting up before me…it makes me feel like I am behind the rest of the day!

Jake has about 90,745 cases (his words, not mine) which are all going to arbitration/trial/mediation in the next few weeks and so he has been working like crazy all weekend long. He took a bunch of depositions this morning and then had to race up to L.A. for a hearing at court , which means he won’t be back until late tonight (or in a few days) depending on traffic.

Knowing it’s going to be a very long day, I started bracing myself as soon as I got up with the girls. Chocolate stash out and available when I start to crash? Check. Ipad in protective case to give to the girls when I need to keep them together in once place for a second? Check. Stroller, water bottles, snacks and diaper bag packed for an extra-long outing today? Check.

The girls are napping right now and so far, everything has been running smoother than expected. Just the usual shenanigans, like crawling into the kitchen drawers…

…And using blueberries as finger paint and make up.

I already need a bath and it’s only noon.!
Despite working all weekend, Jake managed to sneak home for lunch Saturday and go to the park with us. He claims the girls are “more comfortable” in the same swing because they can rest their backs on each other.

Yee haw!

No matter how many times Jake grabbed Samantha and put her back by the play equipment, she’d escape and head straight for the kids playing basketball.

Future basketball star?

Anyway, despite a rough start this morning, it’s been so far so good, although the hours between 4 and 7 p.m. will be the real test of endurance tonight!

Lots of love,
