A Letter to My Daughters

A letter to my daughters:

Dear Samantha and Amelia,

WHY are you waking up at 4:30 a.m.? Until this week, you’ve been sleeping until at least 6:30 a.m. for a month now and Daddy and I really liked how that was going. Are your naps too short? Too long? Are you too hot? Cold? Hungry? We would appreciate it if you would just tell us. Samantha– I realize you have a funny-looking helmet on your head that’s probably not very comfortable to sleep in, so you, at least, have an excuse. Amelia– you do not have an excuse. I know you sympathize with your sister, but you do not need to channel that empathy into waking up before the crack of dawn just to commiserate. If it’s ok with you, we would like to go back to the way things were when you were sleeping for 11, sometimes 12, hours at night. That would really be fantastic.

Sincerely,

Mommy and Daddy
